Republican candidate Donald Trump has stunned Americans and people across the world by defeating Hillary Clinton in the race to become the 45th President of the United States of America.


Trump got 290 electoral votes, 20 more than what he needed to succeed Barack Obama.

His Democratic rival Hillary Clinton managed to secure only 218 electoral votes, a crushing defeat for the former secretary of state.

This billionaire businessman turned TV Star turned Politician who has never before held elected office will now be the commander-in-chief of the world's sole true superpower on January 20, 2017.

Trump at 70 will be the oldest man to ever become US president.

Clinton had been widely assumed to be on course to enter the history books as the first woman to become president in America's but so great was the shock that Clinton did not come out to her supporters' poll-watching party to concede defeat, but instead called Trump and sent her campaign chairman to insist in vain the result was too close to call.

What Does Trump's Victory Mean For India and Pakistan?

Trump has been quite vocal about hs views on Pakistan. In his 2012 Tweet, he had publicly asked Pakistan to apologize to the United States for providing a safe sanctuary to Osama Bin Laden for 6 years.

Several eminent Pakistani scholars and analysts outlined that Trump as president, may adopt a hardline approach towards their country.

While Trump has been in favor of a strong bilateral relations with India, he has also talked tough on the H1B Program, saying he will end forever the use of H1B as a cheap labor program. Although Trump has also recognized America's need for high skilled foreign workers, and has specifically mentioned Indian students while saying smart foreign students educated in the US should be allowed to remain the there.

It remains to be seen how President Trump's policies affect South Asia.
