Heavy Rain Brings Mumbai To A Standstill

Update Aug 30: Rains have stopped for now but some areas continue to receive rains intermittently.

Aug 29:  Heavy Rains lashed many parts of Mumbai. Weather officials believe could be the heaviest and longest bout of rain since July 26, 2005. Industrialist Anand Mahindra called it "typhoon-like weather" in a tweet. Water logging was reported in Wadala, Matunga, Mahim, Dadar, Bandra East, Andheri East, near Kurla Bus Depot Junction, LBS Marg, Kurla West and many other places of the city. Wadala was completely waterlogged.

CST recorded 268 MM of rains, Andheri recorded 158 mm while Ghatkopar recorded 195mm of rains in the last 24 hours. High tide is likely to occur today at 4.35 pm of with tides up to 3.32 meters height.

Most schools in Mumbai are on a break for Ganeshotsav. Schools which were open saw very poor attendance. Suburban services were disrupted with trains on all the three lines - western, central and harbour - running late.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the situation was well under control and advised the citizens to step out of their homes only if necessary.

Between 8.30 am and 12 pm today, the city received 85 mm rainfall
