Stereotyping At Workplace

I believe our office is one place apart from our homes where we spent most of our time. It is a setup where we reach on time (at least try to), eat and always on toes to give to company’s mission and vision. It is very much important for employees to be comfortable and have peace of mind at work to be productive. But when you try so, you are often judged and misunderstood. Activities such as decorating your workstation, having an indoor plant, working with a lot of stationary, wearing bright colours (depending on work profile) or accessories yourself etc raise the eyebrows of people around you. You become the topic of discussion for everyone.

An organisation is a network of various inter-related and interconnected people. Everyone is equal and holds exclusive identity, ability, responsibility and work profile in the company such as for many, ambience plays a very important role and helps to boost work quality. People prefer to be around colours or certain kind of fragrance, sit near the window. Corporates understand these concepts and are taking relevant steps.

At times, you are judged by sex, marital status at a certain age, sexual orientation, your physical appearance and origin. People around you start developing assumptions without having a concrete basis. Hence, you start feeling uncomfortable in that atmosphere. You can’t work at the fullest and the overall aim of the organisation is suffered ultimately. Corporates shall organize training and skills development sessions for their employees so that they can give equal and peer-friendly environment."
