The Kargil war was fought with Pakistan 18 years ago, but no one has ever forgotten the contribution of our martyrs. Remembering the day of this martyrdom, the eyes of the family of the martyrs were moist. But at the same time, the nation takes immmense pride that our brave soldiers gave their life to protect their motherland.
18 years after the war
The Indian Army gave a befitting reply to Pakistan's intrusion back in 1999. It has been 18 years since the Kargil War broke out and our brave soldiers crushed the coward Army of Pakistan so badly that they had to run for their lives and leave the battlefield. The Indian Army was successful in hoisting our tricolor at Tiger Hills, the highest and the most prominent peak that the Pakistani army was holding. Since then every 26th July is celebrate as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
On the occasion of the 18th 'Kargil Vijay Diwas', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the Indian armed forces for their prowess and sacrifices for the country while Defence Minister Arun Jaitley was at India Gate to pay tribute to the war heroes.
More than 500 youths were martyred
The reason behind celebrating this martyrdom day is that, in 1999, some Pakistani soldiers dressed in civil uniforms had crossed the LOC and occupied the Indian Peaks which were not patrolled. The Pakistani infiltrators were thrown out by the Indian army in Kargil. That is why this Vijay Day is celebrated in memory of the sacrifice of those brave soldiers on July 26. The name of this mission was "Operation Vijay". With this, a total of 530 Indian Soldiers were martyred.
Let me tell you that the Vajpayee government had instructed the army to not cross the "line of control", yet the Indian Army with the help of the Air Force successfully managed to flush out the infiltrators.
Pakistan was criticized by other countries for instigating the war, as its paramilitary forces and insurgents crossed the Line of Control. Pakistan's primary diplomatic response, one of plausible deniability linking the incursion to what it officially termed as "Kashmiri freedom fighters", was in the end not successful.
