The Regiments insignia, Unihorned Rhinoceros reflects toughness, aggressiveness, determination and martial qualities. Raised through the Japanese invasion during the Second World War in 1941, this gallant Regiment has won six Battle Honours and Theatre Honour ?Burma? in the first three years of its raising. The Fifth Battalion of the Regiment also has the unique distinction of being the only Infantry battalion to have been awarded Battle Honour in Chhamb Sector during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
This is Assam Regiment's passing out parade. It is based on a true second world war story. One Jawan by the name Badlu Ram died in war, but the company Quarter Master forgot to strike out his name and continued to draw rations for him too. Obviously this resulted in creation of surplus ration over a pd of few months. Then this company was surrounded by Japanese and cut off logistically. At that time the surplus ration of Badlu Ram saw them through the siege or else they would have starved to death. This is the regimental song of Assam Regiment 'Badluram ka Badan zamin ke niche hai...aur hamko uska ration milta hai '. This is performed by young recruits in their regtl centre after every Kasam Parade i.e; the passing out parade on the stadium stairs that overlook the parade ground in Happy Valley Shillong. It is a treat to see this performance
