Thane Residents To Get Free WiFi Services From 19th July, 2017

Residents of Thane will be able to use free WiFi services in most areas of the city from July 19. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is planning to launch the first phase of the public WiFi system in Thane.

Under the smart city scheme, the Thane Municipal Corporation has undertaken the free WiFi project that aims at making the entire city of Thane WiFi enabled. The project has been undertaken on Public Private Participation (PPP) basis and the corporation won?t have to shell out a single penny. The electric pole network across the city will be used for the purpose.

It is to be noted that Free Wifi services will not be provided to residential or commercial complex. WiFi network will be accessible in public areas only from July 19. The citizens will simply have to register themselves to browse the internet at a speed of 800kbs.

According to reports the following areas will be the first to receive Free Wifi:

Kopri, Naupada, Kalwa, Uthalsar, Railadevi, Wagale Estate, Eastern Express Highway and Ghodbunder Road

The second phase will be launched on October 2, and will cover internal roads and areas in the city. The charges for using the WiFi will be a one time registration fee of Rs100, which will be charged only after the launch of the second phase.
