Mumbai recorded 55.53 per cent polling, highest in the last 25 years and ten per cent higher than 2012, an official of the poll body said. The average voting in the Maharashtra municipal polls held on Tuesday was 56.40 per cent, against 48.59 per cent for the same in 2012.
Shiv Sena held on to its position of being the single largest party in Mumbai, BJP gained the most coming close second with 81 seats vs Sena's 84 seats. Congress has been decimated to just 31 seats. MNS also lost grounds and managed to win only 7 seats this time. NCP got 9 while others managed a good 14.
Shiv Sena now solely relies on BJP for its support to attain the half way mark in BMC.
